Sukumara Wins Graduate Research Award

Sumesh - AIChE 2013PhD student Sumesh Sukumara won first place at the Sustainable Engineering Forum (SEF) Graduate Research Competition at the 2013 AIChE Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California.  The citation for Sumesh’s work is below:

Three undergraduate research students in Dr. Seay’s group presented their research at the AIChE Annual Student Conference in San Francisco, California.  Junior Max Croft won 3rd Place in Sustainability for his research work.  Junior Matthew Hancock and Sophomore William Croft also presented their research work.  Congratulation to all three for their hard work.  Citations for the student work is given below:

Croft, Willett and Sukumara take home awards from ICOSSE

Four of Dr. Seay’s research students attended the 3rd International Congress on Sustainability Science and Engineering (ICOSSE) in Cincinnati, OH – Sumesh Sukumara (PhD Student) and Max Croft, William Croft and Christina Willett (Undergraduate Researchers).  Sumesh Sukumara took home the Outstanding Graduate Research Award.  Christina Willett and William Croft were both awarded Outstanding Undergraduate Research Awards.  The Awards came with $100 each plus a certificate.  Citations are below:

UKATS Research Team Receives Honorable Mention at P3 Competition

The UKATS Research Team competed in the US EPA’s 9th Annual People, Prosperity and the Planet Design Competition held in Washington DC.  This year’s team took home an honorable mention award as one of the top team’s competing this year.  The team’s research project was titled “Developing a Novel Low Cost Biodiesel and Biochar Processor for Rural Cameroon Using Locally Sourced Materials and Feedstocks”.  The team’s faculty advisors include Dr. Seay and project Co-PI, Dr. David Silverstein.  The 2012 – 2013 P3 Teams members are Bradley Butler, Max Croft, William Croft, Kyle Lewis, Mitchell Peeler, Zac Watson and Christina Willett.  In addition the team was joined by Heath High School student Keaton Johnson and St. Mary High School students Wes Averill, Daniel DeNeve, John Higgins and Ross Whittaker.  Congratulation to the team for a job well done!

Dr. Seay’s Group selected for a US EPA Phase 1 P3 Award

Dr. Seay and Co-PI Dr. David Silverstein have been selected to receive a Phase 1 award through the US EPA’s People, Prosperity and the Planet Design Competition for the 2012 – 2013 academic year.  As part of this award, Dr. Seay and Dr. Silverstein will lead a team of students to compete in the National Sustainable Design Expo, to be held on the National Mall in Washington, DC, next April.  The project will be based on developing an integrated biodiesel and biochar apparatus for use in the developing world.
